We're Having Fun this Week!

Please add comments or send us your pictures of events, and we will add them here. Tuesday, July 24th Practice at Tippecanoe Condo's Clubhouse: Although we didn't have a big crowd, we got some Hustle and Salsa practice in. Johnny, Joel and Doug are more than willing to teach us all some new steps.  This is a laid back, casual atmosphere that allows anyone who wants to improve their dance skills to come and enjoy.  It's always free, but if you want to bring some wine or snacks, please do. Wednesday, July 25th Latin night at Clasico's (see other posts for address) with Renecito from Cuba.   Renecito provides high energy Cuban music that is always enjoyable and quite danceable.  You will find dancers of all levels, and in fact, some of the local dance instructors show up.   The food is great, bartenders are attentive and although it gets crowded at times, you can usually squeeze in to dance.  We're all pretty friendly...

What's Happening the Week of July 23rd

This is only a sampling of what's happening in the Sarasota area - please check other sites for a more comprehensive list, as I tend to focus on danceable events.   And check back as events may be listed later.  Please support your venues.  They cannot keep hosting dance events if you don't purchase food or drink.  If you specifically want an event to be included here, please use my contact form.   There is a $5 per listing per week charge. Tuesday, July 24th: Mattison's City Grille , at 1 N. Lemon, Sarasota - (941) 330-0440 - is featuring Klick Band, at 7 pm.  Klick Band plays Rock and Classic Rock.  Mattison's, an open air restaurant and bar, has a small dance floor, but if you're visiting Sarasota, you have to check it out at least once.  It is the best place to see and be seen, and although dancing can be tight, it's always a good time there. Gator Club , just across from Mattison's at 1490 Main Street, Sarasota - (941) 366-5...

Dance, Dance, Dance!

Image
We have all felt intimidated getting up on the dance floor, and even those of us that have been dancing for some time look across the room at that woman or man who seem like they just jumped out of a Fred Astaire movie, thinking we're not good enough to be out there. Well, the dance floor is fair game for everyone and allows beginners and professionals to express their joy in the sport they love.   Everyone has to start somewhere.  There is no sport in the world that does not require dedication, training and constant practice. Take every opportunity you can to get out on the floor.   Don't be shy in asking someone to dance -- and that includes women asking men.  Sure, there will be those who may be critical or overly enthusiastic in correcting your moves, but they simply forgot that they were beginners at one time.  Take criticism with a grain of salt.  We all can use improvement - there is no perfection in this world. You should be ...

Some Past Events in the Sarasota Area

Reverend Barry and the Funk is one of the most exciting and most followed bands in the area.  They play funk, blues and Motown. Check out the Sarasota Event Center at 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota 34232 - (941) 366-4449 for their last Saturday of the month event.   There is a large dance floor, and as you can see, substantial seating.  This event gets busy, though, so order your tickets ahead of time.  You receive a free drink with each $12 ticket.  Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at Eventbrite.com or purchased at the door. Clasico's at 1341 N. Main Street, Sarasota - (941) 957-0700 - hosts Renecito from Cuba most Wednesday evenings after 8 pm.  If you like Latin music, great food and drinks, be sure to visit their Cuban night Wednesdays.   On the first and third Thursday of each month, host Johnny Hammer gives us some great disco music to get our boogie on! These videos are not professional, so please forgive ...

Welcome!

I've been wanting to do a blog on dancing in the Sarasota-Gulf Coast area for quite some time. We are going to cover venues in the area, bands, experiences, etc. This area of Florida is one of the most beautiful!   We have white crystal sand beaches, and many dance and entertainment venues from Naples to north of Tampa. I may not cover everything in the area, but will try my best to keep a log of experiences I've had.  I welcome contributions from some of my fellow dancers. So please come back often and check to see what we are up to. For quick information on dance and entertainment venues, please go to www.gotonight.com  and enter your zipcode. Thanks for coming by, Sue PerfectWaters.net
